Caught an article on Forbes.com about hydrogen - one of the potential dream fuels for the next century. Even some of the most adamant pessimists on energy admit that in terms of physics, hydrogen does seem poised to provide us a good deal of energy without the greenhouse gas emissions (from consumption of hydrogen at least, perhaps not always true when it comes to sourcing that hydrogen).
According to the article, EU governments are working directly with companies like Daimler AG and Shell to accelerate research on hydrogen and fuel cells in cars over the next 12 years. These sorts of research grants are likely to continue to grow across the globe as business and governments recognize that oil reserves and supplies may not be able to keep up with expected growth figures.
It’s good to see a company like Shell involved. As a fuels and petroleum company, I’m pleased to see organizations such as this investing in future energy solutions. They’re generating the profits today - ideally those profits can be reinvested in clean-alternatives for tomorrow.
