Caught an interesting article in this month’s FastCompany about oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens and his latest move towards renewable energy - wind style. His new project sounds exceptionally ambitious:
- 4,000 megawatt, 2,000 turbine wind farm
- Enough energy to power approximately 1,000,000 homes - offsetting the potential output of 2 nuclear reactors
- Economically viable (assuming that wind-power incentives remain)
- We’re going to expect 15% growth in energy needs over the next 10 years
It’s a good article, and Pickens strikes me as the affable straight-shooting Texan we’ve all come to expect. Fortunately, he makes the argument for renewable wind with an economic standpoint, although his environmental consciousness proves that even big oil men might have a soft spot for our planet.
